The History of Pasta:
In 4th century BC, an Etruscan tomb showed a group of natives making what appears to be pasta.
An early 5th century cookbook describes a dish called “lagana,” which was layers of dough with meat stuffing. This is what we consider the predecessor to lasagna.
Food historians say that pasta probably became a popular item in Italy during trading in the Middle Ages. But it was present in China and Greece before Italy.
In the 14th and 15th centuries, dried pasta became popular because it was easy to store. And by the 16th century, pasta was all over the world.
In 1740, the 1st pasta factory was opened in Venice, Italy.
The 1st record of pasta with tomato sauce was in a cookbook from 1790.
Before tomato sauce, pasta was eaten with fingers!
Today, most pasta is mass-produced by machines in companies. But there are still people who make enjoy pasta by hand too.
