Melon Sorbet is made with fresh cantaloupe. This is a fresh and delicious flavor for sorbet made in an ice cream maker.

The History of Melons:
Melons are believed to have originated in the hot valleys of Southwestern Asia. We know that they were grown by ancient Egyptians.
The first documented use of the word “melon” was in 1395.
Early American settlers grew honeydew and casaba melons in the 1600’s.
Today, there are about 40 varieties of melon around the world.
Ingredients needed:
- cantaloupe
- granulated white sugar
- salt
- water
- freshly squeezed lemon juice
- vodka or Campari
How to make Melon Sorbet:

In a food processor, pulse the cantaloupe, sugar and salt until combined (about 15 pulses). With the machine running, pour in the water, lemon juice and vodka. Continue to process until the sugar is dissolved, about 1 minute. Strain the mixture into a large bowl and refrigerate until completely chilled- 2 hours (or overnight).
Pour the chilled mixture into the ice cream machine canister and churn until the mixture resembles soft-serve ice cream. Transfer the sorbet to an airtight container and press plastic wrap flush against the surface. Cover the container and freeze until firm- at least 3 hours.
This is such a light and refreshing dessert. It’s the perfect dessert for summer.
Look for the sweetest and juiciest cantaloupe you can find to make this a sweet and juicy sorbet!
