The History of Peaches and Cream:

A peaches and cream dessert is one that has cream poured over freshly sliced peaches (or fresh peaches with whipped cream). No one knows who created this combination or how long it has been around.

Peaches and cream is popular as a dessert or breakfast food in the United States- especially in the South. You can also find peaches and cream in other parts of the world. It’s especially popular during peach season.

There are candy flavors, milk shake flavors, songs and TV show references that use peaches and cream.

How to make Peaches and Cream Parfaits:

The complete, printable recipe is at the end of this post.

In a small saucepan, combine the brown sugar and water; bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Remove from heat and let cool. Then stir in the amaretto.

Place the peach slices in a medium bowl. Pour the amaretto syrup over the peaches, and stir to combine. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let the peaches marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes and up to 2 hours.

To assemble the parfaits: use a large spoon or pastry bag to fill each goblet or glass about 1/4-full with whipped cream. Sprinkle a little bit of the cookie crumbs on the whipped cream. Top with about 1/4 cup of the marinated peaches. Repeat. Garnish with a dollop of cream and more cookie crumbs. Serve immediately.

And there you have it. It’s one beautiful summer dessert. To make it non-alcoholic, don’t marinate the peaches in the liqueur. Just layer peaches, almond biscotti crumbs and whipped cream.
