“The kitchen yielded no lemon cakes, but they did find half of a cold strawberry pie, and that was almost as good. They ate it on the tower steps, giggling and gossiping and sharing secrets, and Sansa went to bed that night feeling almost as wicked as Arya.”

-A Game of Thrones

The History of Strawberry Pie:

Not much is known about the origin of strawberry pie.

Pies in general date back to medieval times and ancient Egyptians. But those pies were very different than what we know today.

In 1620, Pilgrims brought their favorite family pie recipes with them to America. But they had to adapt the recipes to what ingredients were available in the New World. Berries and other fruits were pointed out by Native Americans. So a wild strawberry pie was most likely made during that time!

In the 1700’s, pies were such a popular at-home dessert that they moved to social events like picnics and fairs. Apple pies and berry pies were commonplace.

And of course, today a strawberry pie is one of the most popular pie recipes in America.

How to make No Bake Strawberry Cream Pie:

The complete, printable recipe is at the end of this post.

The first step is making the crust. In a medium bowl, stir together the graham cracker crumbs, butter and sugar until well-mixed. Press into a 9-inch pie plate, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before filling.

The next step is making the filling. In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to combine cream cheese, sugar and vanilla. Stir in the drained strawberries.

In a separate bowl, use an electric mixer to beat together the cream and powdered sugar until stiff peaks form. Fold the whipped cream into the strawberry mixture. Spoon the filling into the prepared crust. Refrigerate for at least 3 hours to give the filling a chance to firm up.
